The warm summer winds have shifted

Tis a change in the wind!

As the seasons start to change, daylight gets less and it turns a bit chilly. It is time to focus on the changes in the seasons that are about to come. We need to be mindful about the foods we are eating and the herbs we are taking.

Tis the season to build our immune system.

Foods, can be our best allies in the fall and winter season. Eating more seasonal produce, such as greens, squashes, pumpkins, onions and garlic, all aid the boosting of the immune system. Soups are a nice way to eat healthy produce, by adding some herbs and spices, this is now a power house of “Super foods”

Bone Broth with Root Veggies

½ gallon bone broth

1 onion chopped fine

6-8 cloves of garlic chopped fine

2 carrots grated

4 ribs of celery chopped fine

½ large(1/2 cup) turnip chopped fine

½ teaspoon of salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

2 bay leaves

1 tablespoon of Olive Oil

Hot pepper to taste

 

In a large soup pot, place the Olive Oil, Onion, garlic and sauté for a few minutes. Add carrots, celery, turnip, pour bone broth over top of the sautéing vegetables. Add the salt, pepper and bay leaves and simmer for 1-2 hrs.
